Nanjing Night Life
Nanjing nightlife is not as diverse as that of
Shanghai, but you can still find a mix of everything from theatre
performances, night markets, karaoke joints to clubs. There are
also some remarkably Western bars, complete with draft beer and
pub games such as darts and pool.The clientele in the places
mentioned below is usually a mixture of Chinese and foreigners,
and they can be excellent places to meet locals. You'll find
the bars are generally busier throughout the week, though dancing
is usually reserved for Friday and Saturday nights.
There are numerous "western style" bars
dotted about the city but the best ones are around the Universities
near Shanghai Lu. Slightly further away from the Universities
are three popular late night spots: Scarlet Bar, situated on
Zhongshan Bei Road; Tequilla Bar on Shengzhou Road; and the Island
Bar. This bars and clubs are always bursting with people of
all ages and the music is generally good ranging from reggae
to doggy style music with a bit of everything else thrown in
for good measure.
There are also a few nice hotel bars offering a
more relaxed and upper market style of entertainment.The Sheraton
Hotel has a nice Irish bar, serving up good pints of Guinness
and the Jinling Hotel has something similar.Both these places
are ideal for those looking for a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere.
Fuzimiao Street on the northern bank of the famous
Qin Huai River in Nanjing is always bustling, even at night,
for it is considered as one of China's Four Famed Streets. There
are numerous arcades, bowling alleys, pool halls and cinemas
in this area. This area gets particularly lively especially
when the street market kicks off in the evenings.

Another way to spend the night is to walk through
the crowded Hunan Lu dining and shopping area to satisfy your
palate with all sorts of delicious food. The night scene of the
street is also beautiful and there are many shops for visitors
to see, and it is one of the most prosperous shopping streets
in Nanjing with the famous Shiziqiao Food Street in the middle.
The street is always bustling with people and makes for an interesting
evening with friends.
